Session #1- The 15 Laws of Student Retention: Evidence-Based Insights to Maximize Student Engagement, Retention, and Learning
This three-hour interactive session will share and discuss adult learning theories and 15 evidence-based strategies to maximize adult student engagement, retention, and learning. Attendees will explore three adult learning theories (Andragogy, Theory of Margin, and Transformative Learning) and their implications for teaching and adult education programs’ performance. Lastly, participants will discuss applying evidence-based insights to promote student engagement, retention, and learning to help learners reach their objectives.
Session #2 – Expanding Teaching Horizons: 15 Ways Instructors Can Move Their Teaching Skills from Good to Great
This session will expose participants to high-impact teaching practices and decisions to capture student attention, increase student retention, and facilitate effective learning. The participants will explore 15 evidence-based teaching practices (high-impact instructions, reflection on learning, and storytelling) and their implications for lesson planning and delivery. Lastly, in small groups or pairs, the attendees will reflect on adapting and applying the practices and materials to improve lesson planning, delivery, and facilitation in their teaching contexts.
Session # 3- Venturing Into New Horizons: Differentiated Instruction (DI) to Maximize Student Learning in 12 Simple Steps
This session will present and discuss how instructors can use Differentiated Instruction (DI) to improve adult students’ engagement, learning, and retention. Participants will explore how to differentiate math, reading, language, and ESL instruction by reviewing and discussing 12 steps in small groups. The attendees will receive and discuss examples of how to build a repertoire of teaching materials to systematically implement DI in their teaching contexts.
